Troops Rescue Kidnapped Employees in Taraba State
WUKARI, Taraba State — Troops from the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) successfully rescued two individuals kidnapped in Gborgbor Village, within the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The victims, identified as Mr. Marwan Abubakar, 40, and Mr. Leng’en Cakop, 37, are both employees of Unity Bank. They were reportedly abducted in Zaki-Biam, located in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
A statement released Sunday by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, indicated that the rescue operation was prompted by actionable intelligence regarding the location of the abductors and their captives.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, OPWS troops conducted an aggressive search and rescue mission aimed at locating the terrorists and safely recovering the victims,” Zubairu stated.
Initial searches of suspected locations in Gborgbor Village yielded no immediate results. However, additional intelligence suggested that the kidnappers and their captives remained in the vicinity. As a result, further forces were deployed under the direction of the Sub-Sector Commander to intensify the search in nearby settlements, including Tse Anaka.
“The terrorists were forced to abandon their captives and flee. The victims were safely recovered, and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the criminals was also found along the route to Tse Anaka Village,” Zubairu added.
Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of OPWS, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift action, highlighting the significance of intelligence-based operations in addressing kidnapping and terrorism concerns.
Gara reassured residents of Taraba and neighboring states of the Joint Task Force’s commitment to ensuring safety and security in the region. He urged the public to provide timely and reliable information to assist security agencies in dismantling criminal networks.
