Turkey: ‘He’s the greatest’ – Ex-Besiktas director Önder Özen hails Osimhen

Önder Özen Calls Victor Osimhen the Region’s Best Striker
Former Besiktas football director Önder Özen has declared Victor Osimhen the top striker in Turkey and the surrounding region. His comments were made during an interview on the Neo Spor YouTube channel, following Galatasaray’s 1-0 triumph over Besiktas in the Istanbul derby on Saturday.
In what proved to be a decisive moment in the match, Osimhen scored the only goal with a header shortly after the half-hour mark, showcasing his ability as a standout player. The former African Footballer of the Year has been in exceptional form, contributing either a goal or an assist in each of his last eight matches for the Turkish champions in the Süper Lig. This achievement marks the equaling of his career-best goal contribution, previously set at Napoli in 2023.
Özen highlighted Osimhen’s impressive performance, noting the significant impact he had on Galatasaray’s hard-fought victory over Besiktas. “Let us begin from Bavaria and move to our region; Osimhen is the greatest striker in this area. He has contributed significantly in both offensive and defensive aspects,” he stated. He further pointed out that Osimhen disrupted the connections Beşiktaş established between defense and midfield, hindering their overall fluidity.
Osimhen has also proven to be a formidable opponent in the UEFA Champions League, with seven goals to his name prior to Galatasaray’s round of 16 match against Liverpool.
As the round of 16 matches approach, Kylian Mbappé leads the scoring chart with 13 goals, followed by Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, both with eight goals. All these players currently compete in Europe’s top five leagues.
