Turkey: Osimhen should have seen red against Beşiktaş – Yalçın

Istanbul Derby Sees Beşiktaş Fall to Galatasaray Amid Controversy

ISTANBUL — Beşiktaş head coach Sergen Yalçın expressed his frustration following Saturday night’s Istanbul derby, in which his team lost 1-0 to rivals Galatasaray. Yalçın contended that Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen should have received a red card during the match.

The defeat ended Beşiktaş’s four-game winning streak, with Osimhen’s first-half goal proving to be the difference. The Nigeria international received a yellow card in the sixth minute for a collision with Beşiktaş goalkeeper Ersin Destanoğlu. Yalçın argued that Osimhen was fortunate to escape a second yellow card after he kicked the ball away following a stoppage in play.

Yalçın criticized the referee’s decision to overlook the incident and expressed disappointment that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene. “The main referee might not see it, but VAR should intervene. Osimhen should have been sent off with a second yellow card,” he stated.

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi played for Beşiktaş in the tightly contested match, which highlighted the ongoing rivalry between the two teams.
