The golfers at the Travelers Championship were supposed to need just 72 holes to decide a champion in the 2021 tournament.
Instead, they needed 80 as Harris English and Kramer Hickok played eight sudden-death playoff holes to decide a winner.
English eventually sank a birdie putt on the eighth extra hole for the win. The victory was his second of the year, making him the first PGA Tour competitor to win two 2021 events.
The English-Hickok battle was historic as it tied for the second-longest playoff in PGA Tour history. It marked the first time since 2012 that an eight-hole playoff occurred during a tour event.

The only event that lasted longer was an 11-hole playoff in 1949 that ended in a tie because of darkness.
