Midnight Fire Destroys Two Vehicles at Ilorin Motor Park

ILORIN, Kwara State — A fire broke out at the Sawmill Garage motor park in the Odo-Okun area of Ilorin early Saturday morning, destroying two vehicles. The incident occurred around 2:48 a.m. and prompted a swift response from the Kwara State Fire Service.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Hakeem Adekunle, firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly, preventing it from spreading to an estimated 36 other vehicles parked at the facility.

The two vehicles affected included a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater bus, identified by their registration numbers, JJJ876HJ and KSF223SK, respectively. Adekunle noted that the motor park typically accommodates around 38 vehicles.

The driver of the bus had returned from a long-distance journey the previous day and parked at the garage to await passengers. While he was reportedly asleep, he was alerted to the fire, which spread to the nearby Toyota Sienna despite efforts from bystanders to isolate the burning vehicle.

Firefighters successfully controlled the situation by 3:03 a.m., mitigating further damage to the remaining vehicles within the garage.
