Tyla deserved to win Grammy ahead of Nigerian artists – Joeboy

Nigerian Artist Joeboy Backs Tyla’s Grammy Win Amid Controversy
Nigerian singer Joeboy has addressed the recent uproar surrounding South African artist Tyla’s victory at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Tyla won the award for Best African Music Performance with her hit song “Push 2 Start,” surpassing a lineup of prominent Nigerian artists, including Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy.
In an interview with radio host Jay On-Air, Joeboy defended Tyla’s achievement in light of criticism that she did not deserve the accolade. While he initially supported Davido for the award, Joeboy acknowledged Tyla’s merit as a deserving winner.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido,” Joeboy said, “but you can’t take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artist.” He emphasized that her recognition was well-earned, stating, “People can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy win. I can’t fault her triumph.”
Joeboy also expressed interest in future collaboration with Tyla, commending her talent and work ethic.
