UCL: Chelsea legend, Burley names top team that won’t win trophy

Former Player Craig Burley Questions Real Madrid’s Champions League Prospects
Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley expressed skepticism about Real Madrid’s chances in the UEFA Champions League this season during an interview with ESPN FC.
Burley indicated that he sees little evidence on the field suggesting that the Spanish side has the capability to compete for the title this year. He noted that players appear to grow anxious under pressure, particularly when opponents start to control the ball. This anxiety, he suggested, is exacerbated by the impatience of the fans.
While Burley acknowledged that Real Madrid could contend for the domestic league title, he is doubtful about their performance in European competitions. “I don’t see anything from Real Madrid that suggests they’ll do well in this competition besides possibly winning La Liga, where there’s a title race,” he stated.
Burley pointed out that Alvaro Arbelo’s squad may struggle against stronger teams, naming Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Barcelona as potential threats. “If they face one of the bigger clubs that are performing well, I think they’re going to face some tough results because they’re not playing well right now,” he said, adding that the team has missed numerous scoring opportunities and often relies on fortunate moments to secure victories.
Following their playoff win against Benfica, Real Madrid will face either Manchester City or Sporting CP in the next round of the tournament.
