UI Lecturer Reacts To Report Alleging He Gave Students $100 For Attending His First Class

A lecturer with the University of Ibadan, Bisi Olawuyi has denied the reports alleging that he gave 10 of his students, 100 dollars each for attending his first class.

This comes after one of the students of the lecturer tweeted that some students were gifted a 100-dollar note for being the first students to attend the lecturer’s class following the suspension of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) strike.

The student made the tweet with a photo of the dollar note that was supposedly given to those present in class.

The tweet went viral, as other students stormed the lecturer’s page in droves to solicit for theirs.

However, the lecturer via Twitter dismissed the claim as false and advised Nigerians to disregard it.

Dr Bisi wrote: “My attention has been drawn to a tweet circulating that I gave $100 each to 10 students. This is not in any way true. Please kindly disregard. Thank you.”

ASUU Denies Signing Agreement With FG To Call Off Strike

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied signing an agreement with the Federal Government to call off its strike.

Naija News recalls that ASUU on the 14th of October called off the eight-month strike and directed its members to resume back to class.

However, on Monday, the President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke during a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives disclosed that the union did not sign an agreement with FG.

According to Osodeke, lecturers acted in good faith by calling off the strike without any written agreement.

Osodeke said, “The strike we called off, our members did it based on trust in us and the way the speaker has intervened, three meetings now, it was on that basis we were able to convince them.

“What we agreed on the issue of IPPIS and UTAS is a temporary measure. We were challenged to do it. We had to spend our money and our resources. In 2020, we were challenged to produce it.”
