United Airlines passenger destroys seat before other passengers zip tie him

A United Airlines passenger has been banned from future flights with the airline after shocking video footage captured him violently kicking and attempting to destroy his seat during a flight from Austin to Los Angeles.

In the now-viral video, the man, dressed in grey sweatpants, can be seen standing on his coach seat, aggressively stomping and kicking it in a fit of rage. Fellow passengers watched in shock and horror as the man silently continued his destructive outburst mid-flight on November 16.

Passenger Gino Galofaro, who recorded the incident, described how he and two others restrained the man after his behaviour escalated. “I had to hold him down while two others retrieved zip ties,” Galofaro recounted. Together, they subdued the man until the flight landed at LAX, where police were waiting at the gate.

The motivation behind the passenger’s bizarre outburst remains unclear. United Airlines has confirmed that the individual has been permanently banned from flying with the airline.

In a statement, United thanked the passengers who intervened and emphasized their commitment to safety. However, questions remain as to why flight attendants did not step in during the incident, which occurred approximately 40 minutes before landing.
