Update: House of Reps member with police for questioning over ass@ult on Bolt driver

The Abia State House of Reps Member, Alexander Ikwechegh, who was caught on camera ass@ulting a bolt driver, Stephen Abuatseya, is currently with the FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, and is being questioned over his faceoff with the bolt driver.

He arrived at the FCT police command at 2:50pm and is still with the FCT police commissioner.

In a statement titled “Nigeria Police Reacts to the Humiliation of Dispatch Rider by Abia State House of Reps Member” and signed by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command confirmed it is aware of the incident involving the lawmaker and the bolt driver that took place on October 27, 2024, in the Maitama district of Abuja.

‘’Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.

The FCT Police Command expresses grave concern over Hon. Ikwegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the Inspector General of Police following the incident. After allegedly sl@pping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,” demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.”

In the statement, the command cautioned the public against using the name or office of the Inspector-General of Police to intimidate citizens, emphasizing that such misuse of authority runs counter to the impartiality that the office of the IGP stands for.

‘’Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning,” Adeh stated
