Video: Tasmanian Devils Born in Australia for First Time in 3,000 Years

We’ve been able to historically, albeit in its infancy, return the devil to mainland. And today is another milestone entirely. There is so much at stake here. We’ve done everything we can, but if the devils don’t breed, it’s all over. Having a population of devils away from the disease landscape in Tasmania is crucial, but there’s so much more at stake than that. By having devils back in the environment, they help regulate feral introduced pests like the fox and cat, they regulate native herbivores like possums, wallabies and kangaroos. And they give platform and enable our endangered small mammals like bandicoots and potoroos and bettongs to survive and thrive.
