SEC Gymnast of the Week – Florida’s Leanne Wong, a freshman from Overland Park, Kan., won at least a share of the four event titles at the NC State quad meet. Wong finished with a 39.850 in the all-around, tying teammate Trinity Thomas for the highest score in the nation this season. In her third all-around win, her score is No. 2 all-time for UF. She set a collegiate best for vault (9.975) and equaled her collegiate bests for beam (9.95) and floor exercise (9.975).
SEC Specialist of the Week – LSU’s Kiya Johnson, a junior from Dallas, Texas, earned three top-three finishes in the win over No. 4 Utah. Johnson recorded a 9.975 on vault to finish second and help her squad earn a season-high 49.525 in the event. She then led off on bars with a 9.90, good for a share of third place. Johnson anchored LSU’s 49.500 beam rotation with a 9.95 to finish third overall in the event.
SEC Co-Freshman of the Week – Auburn’s Sophia Groth, a freshman from West Des Moines, Iowa, led the Tigers on the road in the all-around, scoring a 39.400 at No. 3 Michigan to finish fourth overall in the category. Groth finished in a tie for first place on beam with a 9.95 for her first beam title of her career. She added a 9.875 on floor and a 9.825 on vault for the squad with a 9.750 on bars.
Missouri’s Amari Celestine, a freshman from Wildomar, Calif., won the floor exercise with a career-high 9.975 to help her squad finish first in the quad meet against No. 25 Illinois, Iowa State and Lindenwood to close out the regular season. The Tigers won the meet with a program-best score of 197.675. Celestine also tied her career-high score of 9.925 on vault to earn a share of third place in the event and scored a 9.775 on bars.
