We’ll not hold PDP for another party to be in power in 2027 – Makinde

Makinde Declares PDP Will Not Support Rival Party in 2027 Elections
IBADAN, Nigeria – Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde reaffirmed the commitment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to retain its independence from any agreements that could facilitate the rise of another party in the 2027 elections.
Speaking during the inauguration of a new PDP Secretariat at Oke-Ado in Ibadan on Tuesday, Makinde emphasized that the party would not be used as a stepping stone for others seeking power.
“I was once involved with certain individuals that contributed to the emergence of another party in the last presidential election, but I’ve since changed my stance,” he said. “I will not allow PDP to be used to support another party’s agenda.”
Makinde attributed the internal conflicts within the PDP to a small group of individuals who were expelled from the party in November 2025. “Whatever issues you see stem from their actions,” he noted.
The governor also addressed ongoing legal disputes involving the party, expressing confidence in the Nigerian judiciary. “The courts will address these matters justly, and I trust that the judiciary, being the last hope of the common man, will deliver justice to the PDP,” he said.
As part of the inauguration ceremony, Makinde presented the documents for the newly constructed building, named after former state chairman Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, to Alhaji Kabiru Turaki, the court-nullified factional national chairman of the PDP.
Turaki acknowledged Makinde’s contributions to the party’s development during his address.
A recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan on January 30 had nullified the PDP convention held in November 2025, during which Turaki was appointed as chairman.
