What happened to Cup horse that failed to finish

Right You Are failed to finish the Melbourne Cup after pulling up at the 200m mark.

The seven-year-old returned to the stalls and appears to be OK, with connections revealing what they believe went wrong.

The horse appeared to suffer heat stress in the closing stages of the race but has since been cleared by vets.

Images post-race showed the horse being cooled down with a hose and ice water in the pre-parade area.

Right You Are was jockeyed by John Allen and trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

Before the race, Right You Are was paying a fixed price of $27 to win and $7 to place.

Last year’s winner Gold Trip also looked out of sorts in the run to the line but is said to be fine.
