Why we embarked on transformative reforms in Ogun TESCOM – Commission’s Chairman

Ogun State Teaching Service Commission Announces Reforms to Enhance Education Quality
Abeokuta, Nigeria — The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has initiated significant reforms aimed at strengthening its operations and enhancing the quality of education in alignment with the agenda of the Abiodun administration.
Biodun Sanyaolu, Chairman of TESCOM, made the announcement on Monday during a two-day workshop themed “One Vision, One Team: Driving Excellence Through Unified Leadership and Management.” The event, held in Abeokuta, brought together 500 participants, including principals, vice principals, and teachers from public secondary schools across Ogun State.
During his address, Sanyaolu noted that the agency is undergoing one of the most comprehensive transformation phases in its history, which includes a structured redistribution policy to ensure a fair deployment of teachers. He cited the long tenure of many teachers in single schools, some for decades, as contributing to imbalances — resulting in overstaffed institutions while others suffer from severe shortages.
“This situation has adversely affected fairness, performance, and equity within the state’s educational system,” Sanyaolu said.
He also announced plans to enhance the Zonal Secretary’s Office, aiming to improve supervision, monitoring, and communication between TESCOM headquarters and school principals. The initiative includes selecting prospective Principals-General from existing Zonal Secretaries to boost accountability and oversight.
The workshop’s lead facilitator, Professor Olukayode Oyesiku, the former Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, emphasized the importance of unified leadership in addressing educational challenges. Represented by Professor Bayo Akinsanya, Oyesiku praised TESCOM for its proactive approach and expressed commitment to supporting educators in their mission.
“Unified leadership will have a lasting impact on students, communities, and the state,” he stated.
The reforms undertaken by TESCOM signal a commitment to improving educational standards and addressing long-standing issues within Ogun State’s educational system.
