Wike confirms appointment of 1,659 FCTA workers employed in 2016, 2019

FCTA Minister Approves Confirmation of 1,659 Staff Appointments
NIGERIA—Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the confirmation of 1,659 appointments within the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). This decision comes following a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, indicated that the confirmed staff were part of a larger group of 2,281 candidates who took the examination. Notably, some of these staff were initially employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others joined shortly before Wike took office in August 2023.
Ezeh also stated that 2,512 candidates were invited to participate in the confirmation examination, but only 2,281 attended. The absence of 224 candidates raised concerns about the potential existence of ghost workers within the system.
In related news, the FCT Civil Service Commission has announced plans to conduct promotion exercises for 2025 and 2026. This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to revitalizing the FCTA workforce.
