Wike stood by me when I was politically isolated — Oshiomhole

Former Edo Governor Oshiomhole Praises FCT Minister Wike for Support During Political Isolation
BENIN CITY — Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State publicly thanked Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for his support during a challenging period following Oshiomhole’s removal as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oshiomhole made his remarks during a ceremony on Tuesday, where he handed over 54 construction equipment to the 18 local government areas in Edo State. The event provided a backdrop for Oshiomhole to reflect on his political circumstances after his dismissal from party leadership.
The senator representing Edo North acknowledged that many party members distanced themselves from him after his ouster. “After I was dismissed as APC National Chairman, I became lonely, abandoned by my own party. People were afraid to visit me then because it could be seen as anti-party,” he stated.
He highlighted Wike’s initiative to reach out during that difficult time, recounting an invitation to Port Harcourt to inaugurate a flyover. “But I got a call from a rare Nigerian who identifies with those who are lonely,” Oshiomhole noted. He expressed gratitude for the honor Wike bestowed upon him, which he described as the highest in Rivers State.
Oshiomhole mentioned that Wike had previously remarked on his political setbacks but ultimately restored his hope during the turmoil. “So, if I dey do yanga, it’s because I have a minister that can identify with me when I was removed from my job,” he said.
He also commended Wike’s leadership and political performance, particularly in the recent FCT local government elections. “If anybody was in doubt, he did the one that yesterday when his party came second after the APC. To take second after APC, no issue. Particularly where some people did not get over 100,” Oshiomhole added.
Furthermore, he described Wike as a pivotal figure in redefining development within the geopolitical zone of South South Nigeria. “I want to congratulate you. And I want to thank our governor for sustaining the friendship with the Minister of FCT,” Oshiomhole concluded.
This statement underscores the importance of political alliances amidst internal party challenges within Nigeria’s political landscape.
