Woman arraigned for allegedly assaulting three police officers in Ondo

A 28-year old trader, Tosin Anjorin, was on Monday arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo State for assaulting three police officers.

 

 

Men of the Ondo State Police command arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu, on a two-count charge bordering on assault.

 

 

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on November 6, 2024, at about 11:00 am at Otu-costain Division in Costain area, Ore in Ondo State.

 

 

The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh told the court that the defendant conducted herself in a manner to cause the breach, by assaulting three police officers while performing their lawful duty.

 

 

Usifoh said the defendant held one Inspector Omage Sandra, by uniform and also gave a human bite to Inspector Bose Onoseleaga at her back.

 

 

The defendant was also accused of assaulting and holding the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in the division, one CSP Benson Funso Oludaye by grabbing his clothes. 

 

 

The offence contravenes Sections 356(2), 249 (D) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006. 

 

 

When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Usifoh, therefore, sought an adjournment to enable him study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial. 

 

 

The defence counsel, Mrs. K. M Lawani did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor, but he prayed to the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms. 

 

 

Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum. 

 

 

The case was adjourned till November 22, 2024.
