Wukari Traditional Council denounces misinterpretation of Gov Kefas’ ‘I’m real Jukun’ remark

Wukari Traditional Council Addresses Governor’s Comments
The Wukari Traditional Council has responded to recent interpretations of Governor Agbu Kefas’ remark, “I’m a real Jukun,” stating that such interpretations circulating on social media are misleading and could potentially divide the Jukun community.
In a statement released Saturday, Jolly Agbu Masa-Ibi, Special Adviser to the Aku-Uka of Wukari on media, conveyed that the council felt compelled to clarify the situation. This decision follows a Facebook post that allegedly misrepresented the governor’s comments. Although the governor has official spokespersons, the council emphasized its commitment to addressing the issue due to its immediate relevance and the escalating reactions from both local and external observers.
The council highlighted that numerous calls and concerns from various sectors illustrate the need to correct misunderstandings in pursuit of unity and communal harmony. This clarification coincided with a solidarity visit from the Wukari community to the governor on February 5, 2026, at TY Danjuma House in Jalingo. His Majesty Ishaku Adda Ali led the delegation, during which Governor Kefas reiterated his dedication to fairness and inclusive governance.
The council expressed concern that some individuals had “deliberately distorted” the governor’s comment, interpreting his declaration of identity as a suggestion of superiority over others within the Jukun ethnic group. The council deemed such interpretations unfounded and argued they are intended to incite division for personal or political gain.
Providing context, the council clarified that the governor’s statement was directed at his kin and did not serve as a comparison to any other ethnic group. “The statement was meant to reaffirm his commitment to the moral values traditionally associated with the Jukun people, including honesty, integrity, and loyalty,” the Palace stated.
Additionally, the council likened the remark to an expression of personal faith, asserting that affirming one’s identity and values signifies a commitment to communal standards rather than an assertion of superiority. It cautioned against taking comments out of context, noting that selective interpretations could strain relationships within the community.
The Wukari Traditional Council urged residents to remain vigilant against external interests that might exploit the situation to foster division. Reaffirming its commitment to unity, the council called on the public to dismiss what it referred to as a smear campaign and to continue supporting the current administration for the collective benefit of Taraba State.
