Ogun State Deputy Governor Encourages Women’s Engagement Ahead of National Elections

As the national election approaches, Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele encouraged women to recognize their capabilities and support one another in the political landscape. She emphasized the importance of active participation in selecting future leaders during her annual Ramadan Tafsir and lecture at her residence in Abeokuta.

Salako-Oyedele stated that the annual gathering serves as a platform for Muslim women to enhance their faith, deepen knowledge, and strengthen community ties. The event is designed to address issues specific to women, urging participants to strive for improvement as individuals, citizens, and caregivers.

In her remarks, the deputy governor expressed gratitude for the participants’ attendance, highlighting Ramadan as a time for reflection, spiritual development, and the pursuit of knowledge, all fundamental principles of Islam.

Mariam Oloko, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, commended Salako-Oyedele for her selfless leadership and approachability. She encouraged women to emulate these qualities as they engage in their communities.

During the event, representatives from various Muslim women’s organizations shared messages of goodwill, reinforcing the need for increased activism among women. They offered prayers for the deputy governor, appreciating her efforts in making the lecture a staple for recognizing women’s contributions to society.

Sheik Nurein Rabiu, Imam at the Governor’s Office Secretariat Mosque, delivered a sermon titled “Muslim Woman’s Journey in Modern Times.” He underscored the significance of women, countering misconceptions about Islam’s stance on gender roles. He noted that a complete Surah in the Quran honors women, exemplifying their esteemed status in Islam.

Rabiu urged women to act with integrity and uphold their responsibilities, especially those in leadership positions. He called for fairness, kindness, and respect within their families, emphasizing that their worth is defined not by societal norms, but by divine recognition.
