‘You live in Jos’ – Resident accuses Kanam LGA boss of abandoning council to insecurity

Resident Criticizes Kanam Council Chairman’s Absence Amid Security Concerns

A resident of the Kanam Local Government Area in Plateau State, Tarub Salim Dugub, has publicly criticized Council Chairman Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa for what he describes as a lack of engagement with the community during ongoing security threats.

In an open letter addressed to the council chairman on February 17, Dugub expressed concern regarding the increasing violence in the area, particularly following an attack by suspected Fulani bandits in Garga town on Monday evening, which resulted in multiple fatalities and property damage.

Dugub contended that as the chief security officer of the local government, Musa should reside among his constituents rather than dwell in Jos, the state capital. He noted that the chairman has only made “condolence visits” after violent incidents, neglecting his role to provide proactive leadership in times of crisis.

“Hon. Ayuba Salihu Musa, as the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, your presence is urgently needed,” Dugub stated in his letter. “The ongoing violent attacks necessitate your immediate return to instill confidence among the residents.”

He emphasized that effective leadership requires active engagement, particularly during difficult circumstances. Dugub urged Musa to prioritize the security and welfare of the community he was elected to serve, highlighting that leadership should not be conducted from a distance.

The resident further called for visible leadership and proper coordination of security efforts to restore order in the affected areas. He asserted that absence from leadership only fosters discouragement and uncertainty among the populace, undermining their hope for safety and stability.

Dugub concluded by urging the council chairman to return to Kanam and collaborate with security agencies to address the pressing issues facing the community.
