10 rescued as troops foil two kidnapping attempts in Zamfara
Ten individuals were rescued by troops from Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA during two separate kidnapping attempts in Zamfara State. The operations took place on September 27, 2026, along the Tsafe-Funtua Road and at Kade Daba village in the Kanoma District of the Maru Local Government Area.
The first incident unfolded near the Kwanoni axis of the Tsafe Local Government Area, where troops responded to reports of gunfire on the highway. Upon arrival, the soldiers engaged armed bandits in a brief exchange of fire, prompting the assailants to retreat into the surrounding area. Prior to the troops’ intervention, the attackers had set fire to a commercial vehicle. The occupants were evacuated safely, and the troops secured the vehicle. Additionally, six individuals traveling in another vehicle that lost control during the attack were also rescued.
In the second operation at Kade Daba village, troops acted on intelligence regarding an abduction and confronted the kidnappers. The assailants abandoned their captives and fled upon the troops’ arrival. Three victims were rescued at the scene, and a subsequent search led to the recovery of another individual.
According to a report, “The troops immediately deployed to the area and engaged the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee.”
The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care and assessment before being reunited with their families.
