2026 U-17 WWC: CAF celebrates Flamingos’ historic final qualification

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has praised Nigeria’s Flamingos following their impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil, which secured their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos achieved this milestone on Wednesday evening, marking their first appearance in the championship match of the tournament. Queen Joseph opened the scoring for Nigeria with a close-range goal just before the 60-minute mark.
Winger Awawu Bashiru extended the lead with two goals, finding the net in the 71st and 80th minutes to seal the victory against Brazil. Although Greise Kelly managed to score a late header for the Seleção, it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
CAF celebrated the achievement on its official X account, stating, “AFRICA, MAKE SOME NOISE! THE FLAMINGOS ARE WORLD CUP FINALISTS!”
Nigeria is set to face Japan in the final, which will take place at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, Pitch 3, in Rabat on Saturday night.
