2027 election: Ogun CP warns against violence, steps up security at INEC office

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from violence and intimidation in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

Ojajuni made this statement during a visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Abeokuta on Wednesday, where he met with Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs. Feyijimi Saseyi.

The visit aimed to evaluate security measures for INEC personnel, facilities, and electoral materials in preparation for the upcoming elections.

During his address, Ojajuni emphasized the significance of INEC as a vital institution within Nigeria’s democratic framework, asserting the need for its protection. “From now until the end of the 2027 general elections, the INEC office will become our second office,” he declared.

The commissioner outlined a strategy that includes intelligence-led policing, early threat assessments, and coordinated security operations to safeguard electoral officials, voters, and materials. He assured that all security efforts would be executed professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law.

Previously, the police command organized a security workshop in Abeokuta, which included various security agencies and stakeholders, to enhance collaboration ahead of the elections.

Ojajuni reiterated his warning to political entities against engaging in violence and called on residents to report credible security threats to the nearest police station rather than spreading misinformation.

In response, Saseyi expressed gratitude for the police’s visit and confirmed INEC’s commitment to cooperating with security agencies. “On our part, we will also be open, transparent, and committed to this assignment so that, at the end of it all, we will achieve free, fair, transparent, and credible elections,” she stated.
