2027: INEC extends submission of governorship, State Assembly candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for submitting candidates for the governorship and State Assembly elections for the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed the new deadline in a statement on Saturday. Submissions are now due by Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
This decision follows numerous requests from political parties seeking additional time to complete their candidate listings.
“INEC wishes to inform political parties and the public that it has approved an extension of the deadline for the submission (upload on the dedicated portal) of the list of candidates for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections for the February 2027 General Election,” the statement read.
The original deadline, set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, has now been extended to accommodate these requests.
