New Resident Electoral Commissioner Takes Charge in Benue

Makurdi, Benue State – Aminu Idris has officially assumed leadership as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State.

In a statement to the press, Idris reinforced INEC’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections in advance of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the importance of enabling all qualified Nigerians to engage in the democratic process.

During a press briefing in Makurdi, Idris highlighted the vital role of the media as a key partner in fostering democracy through accurate electoral information and public awareness of INEC’s activities.

Idris also pointed to the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which has entered its third and final phase. He urged eligible residents who have not yet registered to take advantage of this opportunity before the registration period concludes.

Regarding the restoration of state constituencies, he reported that the process has been completed in four out of five affected local government areas.

In conclusion, Idris assured the people of Benue State that INEC will carry out its duties with fairness, transparency, and professionalism in accordance with its constitutional obligations.
