2027: Start crying, you can’t defeat Tinubu – Wike to opposition

FCT Minister Wike Challenges Opposition Ahead of 2027 Elections

ABUJA – Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, issued a stark warning to opposition parties on Tuesday, asserting they should abandon any hopes of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

At a press conference in Abuja, Wike emphasized that the opposition should focus on preparing for the future rather than aiming for victory in January. He expressed skepticism about their chances, stating, “While the winning candidate will receive over 500,000 votes, the second-place contender may earn over 400,000, and the third could tally just 17,000. A party led by a former governor? When it comes to the national elections, they will not emerge victorious.”

Wike characterized the opposition as a “depleted” force, suggesting they should accept their current limitations. “They know that the only option left is to start crying, but when it comes to winning the election, they cannot succeed,” he said.

He also urged the opposition to focus on organizing their party in the aftermath of the election rather than attempting to challenge Tinubu’s leadership. “How you choose leaders reflects the efforts you are making to address pressing issues. Therefore, we should refer to them as a depleted opposition, of which I am one of those who diminished their ranks,” Wike concluded.
