NDC Governorship Candidate Urges Voters to Choose Wisely in Upcoming Election
LAGOS — Funsho Doherty, governorship candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 Lagos State elections, called on eligible voters to make informed decisions and elect credible candidates capable of transforming the state.
Speaking on Sunday at the 40th Anniversary celebration of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Surulere, Doherty emphasized that the upcoming election represents a critical opportunity for Lagos residents to shape the future of their state through conscientious voting.
“The future of Lagos rests in the hands of its people,” he stated. Doherty urged voters to look beyond short-term inducements and consider candidates who demonstrate integrity, competence, and a genuine commitment to public service.
He highlighted that for over 25 years, Lagos State has been governed by one political party, stressing the importance of healthy competition and accountability in a democratic system. “It is time for Lagosians to evaluate all available options in the interest of the state,” he said.
Doherty also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that every legitimate vote is counted. He remarked that the transparency of the electoral process is fundamental to democracy. “Nigerians deserve elections where every vote counts and the will of the people is respected without compromise,” he added.
As part of his campaign promises, Doherty pledged that an NDC-led administration would focus on improving infrastructure, affordable healthcare, quality education, and sustainable economic policies aimed at enhancing living standards in Lagos. He stated, “Our administration will reposition Lagos to an enviable height by investing in people-oriented programs, creating economic opportunities, and restoring public confidence in governance.”
He further committed to modernizing the state’s healthcare system, enhancing public transportation, strengthening security, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and expanding youth empowerment initiatives. “Healthcare, education, transportation, and job creation will receive urgent attention under our administration,” he said.
The Vicar and Archdeacon of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Rev. Chidi Ukachukwu, also addressed attendees, calling on political office seekers to embrace integrity and selfless service. He noted that true leadership is built on courage and commitment, urging leaders to prioritize the needs of the public over personal ambitions.
Ukachukwu encouraged Christians to actively participate in nation-building and promote peace during the electoral process. “Elections should unite us rather than divide us,” he asserted, emphasizing the importance of continued prayer for Nigeria’s progress.
He expressed hope for the country amidst current socio-economic challenges, stating that collective efforts, coupled with responsible leadership and divine guidance, could drive lasting progress. “With faith, accountability, and sincere leadership, Nigeria can overcome its challenges,” he concluded, urging all citizens to play their part in building a prosperous and united nation.
