22 SEC track & field athletes claim national titles

AUSTIN, Texas (June 12, 2023)—–A total of 22 Southeastern Conference track and field athletes from five SEC schools won individual titles at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships held last week at the University of Texas.

SEC teams placed first and second in the men’s standings as Florida (57) edged Arkansas (53) to win the Gators’ 11th NCAA title. Other SEC teams to finish in the top-10 were No. 4 LSU, No. 7 Georgia and No. 8 Alabama. An SEC team has won the NCAA men’s outdoor title three consecutive years and in six of the last seven championships.

Florida finished second in the women’s standings behind Texas, while Arkansas placed third. Five other SEC women’s programs claimed top-10 finishes, including No. 5 Texas, No. 6 Kentucky, and No. 7 LSU, while Georgia and Tennessee tied for 10th.

A total of 22 SEC student-athletes won NCAA individual titles in 14 different events. Florida’s Emmanuel Bamidele won a pair of titles in the men’s 400m and in the 4×400 relay. The Gators clinched the title with a collegiate record 2:57.74 in the relay. Florida’s Jasmine Moore set a collegiate record in the women’s triple jump (14.78m/48-6).
