$3.1m deal that left young star ‘shaking like anything’

Punjab Kings went all out in the 2022 auction, picking up Sam Curran for the 2023 season.

Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history when he was bought for ₹18,50,00,000 ($3.3million AUD approximately).

“He’s a world-class player,” Punjab Kings team director Ness Wadia said.

“He’d play in any world XI, in any of the top teams, he’s that good. He’s probably one of the best all-rounders in the world, if not the best.”

Curran failed to set the world on fire though, averaging 27.60 with the bat and scoring only one half-century. He took 10 wickets with the ball, averaging 48.90.
