Two Dead, 20 Injured in Kano Road Crash

KANO, Nigeria — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command has reported a fatal traffic accident that occurred Saturday morning at Wudil T-Junction along Maiduguri Road. The crash resulted in two fatalities and left 20 people injured.

According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Office, the incident transpired around 9:20 a.m. and involved a DAF trailer that was transporting animals, goods, and passengers from Wudil Market to Lagos State. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle while approaching the junction, reportedly due to excessive speed, leading to the collision.

A total of 30 adult males were involved in the crash. Of these individuals, 20 sustained varying degrees of injuries, while eight were unharmed. The two deceased were confirmed on-site.

The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving a distress call at approximately 9:25 a.m., quickly initiating evacuation and rescue operations. Injured victims were transported to Wudil General Hospital for treatment, and debris from the wreckage was cleared to restore normal traffic flow.

Sector Commander CC Idris Mohammed Lawal expressed concern over ongoing violations of road safety regulations, particularly the dangerous practice of transporting passengers in vehicles designed for goods and livestock. He emphasized that speeding and overloading are significant contributors to road accidents, urging drivers and transport operators to adhere strictly to traffic laws.

Lawal additionally advised the public to refrain from boarding unsafe vehicles. The FRSC remains committed to enhancing road safety and reducing fatalities throughout Kano State.
