Taraba State Police Reinforces Commitment to Safety Amid Rising Tensions

JALINGO, Nigeria — Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, has reaffirmed the police command’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the region. His remarks came during a peace and security meeting on Thursday, addressing escalating tensions in the Takum and Donga local government areas.

The meeting convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from the Tiv People’s Association, Tabital Pulaku International, the Tiv Cultural and Social Association, and the Miyetti Allah group, alongside heads of local security agencies.

In his address, Commissioner Dongshal emphasized that the police would continue to protect lives and property while taking firm action against criminal activities. He highlighted the priority of ensuring resident safety and the command’s intention to collaborate closely with relevant partners to promote peace across the state.

Mallam Isa Yuguda, Chairman of the Reconciliation and Peace Dialogue Committee, delivered the keynote speech, underscoring the importance of ongoing dialogue, mutual understanding, and collective responsibility in tackling security challenges and facilitating sustainable peace in affected areas.

Meeting participants expressed alarm over the current security situation, calling for calm, peaceful coexistence, and strict adherence to the rule of law. They agreed to enhance cooperation with security agencies and foster ongoing community engagement.

Residents of Takum and Donga were urged to abide by the law, support local security efforts, and refrain from actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region.
