Osun State Police Arrest Suspect in Assault of Female Officers
Osogbo, Nigeria – The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a suspect involved in an assault on female police officers, an incident that gained significant attention after a video of the attack circulated widely on social media.
Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan announced the arrest during a press briefing on Tuesday at the police headquarters in Osogbo. He stated that the suspect was tracked down and arrested on April 27, 2026, after attempting to evade capture by fleeing to Edo State.
The video in question depicted the suspect attacking the officers, who were performing their lawful duties at a traffic stop, using a stick and a shovel. In response to the incident, Commissioner Gotan initiated an intelligence-led operation aimed at apprehending the perpetrator.
“The suspect is currently in custody, and his motorcycle has been recovered. Investigations are ongoing as we prepare for prosecution,” Gotan said.
The police commissioner condemned the attack, labeling it as barbaric and unacceptable. He emphasized that assaults on officers carrying out their official responsibilities will not be tolerated.
