University of Cross River State Officials Involved in Fatal Road Accident
Calabar, Nigeria — Solomon Nya, the Director of Sports for the Students’ Union Government at the University of Cross River State, has reportedly died following a road accident that occurred on the evening of May 1 in Odukpani, located on the outskirts of Calabar. Two other individuals also lost their lives in the incident.
The crash resulted in several serious injuries among the other occupants of the vehicle. An eyewitness who spoke with Vanguard confirmed that the Students’ Union Government President was among the injured and is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
“The SUG President is unconscious. He is in the emergency unit, and we hope for his recovery,” the eyewitness stated.
The source also noted that some of the injured individuals sustained severe injuries, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Expressing concern for the injured, particularly the SUG President, the witness described the situation as tragic.
As of the time of this report, the management of the university had not released any official statement regarding the incident, which took place during a public holiday.
