Nigerian Army Conducts Operation Against Suspected Terrorists in Zamfara
Troops from the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, alongside the 1 Brigade Combat Team and Tactical Combat Support elements, launched an offensive operation targeting suspected terrorists in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation began at approximately 9 a.m. on May 4, according to a statement from counter-insurgency and security expert Zagazola Makama, shared on X. The military targeted specific terrorist enclaves in the villages of Kamara, Dan Gwandi, Manawa, and Katsira.
During the course of the operation, troops engaged in an exchange of gunfire with terrorists in Katsira village, resulting in the deaths of several militants. However, three soldiers suffered gunshot wounds and are currently under medical care.
Makama reported that the terrorist group was compelled to retreat under sustained military pressure towards the Fakai high ground. The Nigerian Army continues to assert control over the area and is actively working to eliminate fleeing terrorist elements to prevent their mobility.
