ACF protests alleged illegal sealing of headquarters by police in Kaduna

Arewa Consultative Forum Headquarters Sealed by Police Ahead of Key Meeting

Kaduna, Nigeria — The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reported that its headquarters in Kaduna has been sealed by personnel from the Nigeria Police with no clear justification. This action comes just days before a scheduled meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) set for Wednesday, April 6, 2026.

In a statement released to DAILY POST, ACF National Publicity Secretary Prof. Muhammad-Baba indicated that the police action appears to be without basis. He referenced a brief unsigned circular attributed to Bashir Dalhatu, the chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees (BOT), which claimed the meeting had been canceled on the grounds that it was convened by the forum’s Secretary General.

The ACF has stated it is unaware of any court orders or restrictions pertaining to its operations. The organization emphasized that the BOT chairman does not possess authority over functions outside the parameters established in Section 8 of the ACF Constitution.

Moreover, the ACF clarified that the upcoming NEC meeting—as well as a previous gathering of the National Working Committee (NWC)—was called by the ACF Chairman, Mamman Osuman. This decision aligns with Section 20, subsection 3, and Section 13, subsection 3(c) of the ACF Constitution, which stipulates that meetings are to be initiated by the chairman rather than the Secretary General, regardless of ongoing discussions about the latter’s tenure.

The statement also urged Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, to direct the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police to lift the seal on the ACF headquarters. The organization noted that the meeting held earlier today proceeded without incident, and relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, had been informed of the events.

“As delegates arrive in Kaduna in advance of the NEC meeting, we hope that rationality and sound judgment will guide the situation,” the statement concluded.
