Oyo terrorist attack: IGP Disu visits communities, orders intensified rescue operation

Inspector-General of Police Visits Oyo State Following Abduction Incident

Oyo State — Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu visited Oyo State on Friday, May 15, 2026, in response to a tragic attack and abduction that occurred in the Oriire Local Government Area earlier that day.

The IGP conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims, expressing profound concern over the incident. During his visit, he was accompanied by Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi and Abayomi Shogunle, the Commissioner of Police for the Schools Protection Squad. This collaboration was due to the geographical proximity of Oriire to communities bordering Kwara State.

While in Oyo, Disu held discussions with Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga and other security stakeholders. He received operational briefings regarding ongoing rescue efforts and the deployment of security resources in affected areas.

Disu assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in conjunction with other security agencies, is intensifying search-and-rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and tactical deployments. These efforts aim to ensure the safe return of all abducted individuals and to bring the attackers to justice.

Condemning the assault as both cruel and unacceptable, the IGP emphasized that restoring normalcy in the affected communities remains a top priority. He has directed the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence resources to bolster operations in the area and surrounding forests.
