N3bn contract fraud allegation against me fabricated — ADC guber aspirant, Makanta

Niger State Gubernatorial Aspirant Denies Fraud Allegations

Idris Makanta, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial aspirant in Niger State, has publicly denied allegations of involvement in a fraudulent N3 billion rice contract.

In a statement released by his media office on Monday, Makanta described the claims as baseless fabrications intended to undermine his rising popularity in the state.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that Makanta is facing pressure to withdraw from the gubernatorial race due to these allegations. However, he contended that such claims are unfounded.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no ‘rice contract fraud’ involving Malam Idris Usman Makanta with the Niger State Government or any other institution whatsoever,” he stated, urging those spreading the accusations to provide credible evidence to support their claims.

Makanta further emphasized that he is under no pressure to step back from his candidacy and expressed confidence in securing the ADC ticket for the upcoming 2027 general election.

“We wish to reaffirm that there is no pressure from any quarter for Malam Idris Usman Makanta to withdraw from the race. He remains optimistic and confident of securing the ADC ticket,” he added.
