Senate primaries: Zamfara APC aspirant rejects disqualification, threatens legal action

Zamfara Central Senate Aspirant Rejects Disqualification from APC Primary

GUSAU, Nigeria — Sanusi Ibrahim Garacci, an All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Zamfara Central, has publicly contested his disqualification from the party’s upcoming 2027 senatorial primary. He characterized the ruling as unjust and announced plans to seek legal redress.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Garacci asserted his commitment to remain in the race, despite the setback. He claimed the disqualification was based on alleged non-payment of party dues, which he vehemently denied.

“I have every document for the payment of my party dues,” Garacci stated. He further alleged that some of his critical documents had been removed to facilitate his disqualification. “This was aimed at preventing me from participating in the primary election,” he added.

Garacci called on his supporters to remain calm, assuring them that efforts were underway to challenge the decision through legal means.

This incident follows a recent endorsement by APC stakeholders in Zamfara for a consensus arrangement supporting the return of incumbent National Assembly members in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. Garacci had previously criticized this arrangement, labeling it undemocratic and unfair to other aspirants.

As of now, the APC has not issued an official response to the allegations presented by Garacci.
