TCN gives update on blackout in presidential villa, Nnamdi Azikiwe Int’l Airport, other parts of Abuja

Transmission Company of Nigeria Addressing Blackouts in Abuja
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is addressing recent power outages affecting several areas in Abuja, including the Presidential Villa and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
In a statement issued Saturday, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the outages were caused by faults in the red and yellow phase 33 kV bushings of a 100 MVA transformer at the Apo substation.
Mbah reported that repairs on the red phase bushing have been completed, while work on the yellow phase is ongoing.
TCN has urged the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to source power for customers connected to the affected 33 kV feeders from other TCN feeders in the area until the repairs are finalized.
“Our engineers are working diligently to restore the transformer and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this incident has caused to AEDC and affected electricity customers,” TCN stated.
This outage has led to significant disruptions in the capital, impacting vital facilities including the State House and the international airport.
