Tinubu Commends APC Primaries for Internal Democracy

President Bola Tinubu praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential primaries on Saturday, characterizing the event as peaceful, transparent, and a solid example of internal democracy.

Speaking after casting his vote at Ireti Primary School in Ikoyi II, Eti-Osa Local Government Area, Lagos, Tinubu noted the enthusiastic participation of thousands of party members.

“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has proceeded according to plan,” he stated. “This is grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved. The process has been peaceful and well-organized.”

The president also expressed gratitude to APC governors and party officials for their effective coordination and preparations. He acknowledged the successful execution of various stages of the election process, including ward congresses, local government congresses, delegate accreditation, and the validation of voter registration.

“Today, I am very satisfied with the performance of these governors in their respective states,” Tinubu added. “You can score democracy at a high level with such execution.”

Reacting to the significant turnout at his polling station, he expressed appreciation for the continuous support from party members. “I’m just excited,” he said.

The presidential primaries were held concurrently across all of Nigeria’s 8,809 wards as the APC aims to select its candidate for the 2027 general election. In a notable shift, all registered APC members at the ward level were eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant, a move away from the traditional delegate-based nomination system.

Results from the elections will be compiled at local and state levels before being submitted to the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
