Nigeria Intensifies Surveillance Amid Ebola Outbreak in Africa

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has escalated its nationwide surveillance and preparedness efforts in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak reported in parts of Africa. The agency made this announcement in an updated Public Health Advisory regarding the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

While Nigeria has not recorded any confirmed cases linked to the current outbreak, the NCDC emphasized the importance of strengthening preventive and response measures across the country.

Ongoing initiatives include enhanced surveillance, laboratory readiness, and infection prevention and control measures. The NCDC also highlighted the necessity of coordination activities and public risk communication to bolster the country’s readiness.

The advisory offers guidance for healthcare workers, travelers, and the public on preventive measures against Ebola. Additionally, the NCDC outlined the symptoms and modes of transmission of EVD to improve public awareness and facilitate early detection.

The agency urges Nigerians to remain vigilant and adhere to public health advisories to mitigate the risk of a potential outbreak.
