Ebola Deaths From Current Outbreak Now At 220

World Health Organization Reports 220 Suspected Deaths in Ongoing Ebola Outbreak

GENEVA — Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), announced on Monday that the current Ebola outbreak has resulted in 220 suspected deaths. He noted that delays in case detection have left health responders “playing catch-up.”

“We are urgently scaling up operations, but at the moment the epidemic is outpacing us,” Tedros stated, emphasizing the need for immediate action from countries bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo, the outbreak’s epicenter.

On the same day, Uganda confirmed two additional cases of Ebola, bringing its total confirmed cases to seven.

In response to the outbreak, the WHO has declared the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola a public health emergency of international concern.
