Social Media Critic Responds to Legal Threat from Presidency
Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has addressed a legal warning issued by the Office of the President of Nigeria.
The warning follows the circulation of a manipulated video in which VDM is accused of using altered audio purportedly featuring President Bola Tinubu. In response, President Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, has asserted that VDM will face legal consequences for his actions.
In a statement, Otse acknowledged the allegations but emphasized his intention to confront the legal challenge head-on. “I will not defend the allegations. If I respond, let God punish me. I want to face that law,” he said, adding that he is willing to expedite his travel plans to ensure his presence in any legal proceedings.
Otse maintained that his criticisms of the government are a fundamental right within a democratic society, stating, “If you are pained that VDM is speaking, what option do I have other than to speak? It is my right to criticize the government when it is doing wrong.”
The situation has drawn attention on various social media platforms, further fueling discussions around freedom of expression and the legal boundaries of online content.
