NCDC: No Ebola Traces in Nigeria, Citizens Urged to Remain Calm
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed there are currently no traces of Ebola in the country, urging citizens to stay calm.
Dr. Jide Idris, the Director General of the NCDC, provided this reassurance during a recent press briefing. He emphasized that the government has established designated isolation and treatment centers nationwide to facilitate early detection and quarantine, should the need arise.
Idris reported that a recent risk assessment indicates Nigeria is 59% prepared to respond to a potential outbreak. As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public health measures, authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance and enhancing surveillance at critical entry points.
To effectively identify potential cases, the NCDC is implementing a strict case definition that includes a thorough review of any travel history within the past 21 days from areas experiencing Ebola outbreaks, as well as monitoring key symptoms such as sudden fever, severe weakness, and bleeding.
