Nigerian Army Captures Five Suspected Armed Criminals in Taraba State

June 4, 2026 — The Nigerian Army reported the apprehension of five individuals suspected of armed criminal activity during an operation in Taraba State’s Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, part of Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, responded to a distress call regarding attacks on local communities. Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, confirmed that the troops mobilized swiftly to the affected area.

Upon arrival, the soldiers engaged in a firefight with unidentified gunmen. Utilizing superior firepower, they were able to disperse the attackers and pursue them into nearby areas, leading to the capture of five suspects.

The operation yielded several items, including two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones, which were seized from the suspects.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery during the incident. He emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian Army to continue operations aimed at eliminating criminal activities and preventing breaches of safety and security in the region.

General Akaliro reassured Taraba State residents of the Brigade’s determination to pursue all criminal elements and restore normalcy to the area.
