Armed Militia Attack in Benue State Leaves One Dead, Homes Destroyed

KATSINA-ALA, Benue State — Armed militia members reportedly attacked the Mbasa community within the Utange Council Ward, resulting in one fatality and significant property damage on June 4.

Military sources indicated that troops from Sector 1, in collaboration with operatives from the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, received an emergency call at approximately 8:30 a.m. alerting them to the assault on local residents.

Upon their arrival, security personnel discovered that the attackers had fled the scene. Initial assessments revealed that one individual lost their life during the incident, while multiple residences were set ablaze by the assailants.

Authorities recovered two empty 7.62mm special ammunition shells at the site, indicating that firearms were used during the attack. The body of the deceased was subsequently taken by relatives for burial per local customs.

Military officials have announced that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence. They also reported that security measures have been enhanced in the area to prevent further incidents and to reassure local residents.
