Bandits gun down farmers clearing farmlands in Zamfara – Daily Post Nigeria

Farmers Killed in Zamfara State Attacks

Several farmers were reportedly killed and others injured in attacks by suspected bandits in Zamfara State. The incidents occurred Friday afternoon in the communities of Lugga, Gwabro, and Gwammanan, where the victims were engaged in clearing and preparing their farmlands for the upcoming farming season.

Bakatsine, a journalist who covers conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region, disclosed the attack on Sunday through a post on social media platform X. According to Bakatsine, the assailants targeted the farmers while they were working, resulting in multiple casualties. The exact number of fatalities and injuries has not yet been confirmed.

In his post, Bakatsine expressed concern over the implications of such violence. “Beyond the tragic loss of lives, continued attacks on farmers threaten food production, livelihoods, and economic stability,” he wrote. He further noted that ongoing insecurity could jeopardize harvests, leading to increased food prices and deeper poverty across both rural and urban communities.

The latest incident highlights the rising concerns over insecurity in rural areas of Zamfara State, where armed group attacks have increasingly disrupted farming activities. As of this report, local authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the attacks.
