FCT Police Launch Violent Crime Response Unit
ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command introduced the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) on Monday at the former SARS Office in Abuja. This initiative aims to enhance efforts against violent crimes throughout the territory.
FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi stated that the establishment of the unit is a direct response to security challenges posed by armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent criminal activities in the capital.
The VCRU has been organized into five operational sectors to improve coverage, intelligence gathering, response times, and resource deployment.
Sanusi emphasized that officers chosen for this unit were carefully selected and underwent rigorous training. He highlighted the importance of professionalism, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights in their operations.
The commissioner cautioned that any misconduct, including abuse of authority, harassment, or extortion, would not be tolerated.
The launch event featured several attendees, including traditional rulers and representatives from various security agencies, including Brigadier General A.O. Onasanya, Commander of the Guards Brigade.
