Socialite Claims Grammy Loss Was Deliberate Attack on Davido
Nigerian socialite Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as ChiefPriest, has suggested that the recent Grammy loss of his friend and fellow Nigerian artist, David Adeleke—popularly known as Davido—was orchestrated to undermine him. ChiefPriest’s comments follow Davido’s defeat in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday.
Davido lost to South African artist Tyla, who won the award for her song “Push 2 Start.” The competition included other notable tracks such as Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido’s own “With You” featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”
This marks the second win for Tyla in this category since its inception in 2024, when she became its first recipient with her song “Water.”
In response to the Grammy outcome, ChiefPriest expressed his views in an Instagram post where he shared photos of himself with Davido. He alleged that certain foreign music executives are attempting to lead Davido toward unethical or demonic practices.
ChiefPriest emphasized that Davido would not engage in such activities and urged him to focus on his career. He encouraged the artist to disregard the setback and continue producing music for his fans, stating, “Heads up, brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water.”
